1 - Get your vehicle inspected. Driving instruction vehicles fitted with dual controls must be inspected. The Department has authorised private businesses (Authorised Inspection Stations -AIS) to provide vehicle inspections in metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. The aim is to check the modifications that have been made, and is a separate inspection from the new licence road-worthiness inspection.
2 - Complete the paperwork: After the inspection is complete, the vehicle record will be updated to show that the vehicle is being used for driving instruction.
3 - Go for an annual inspection: In order to maintain your driving instruction vehicle licence, you will be required to get the vehicle inspected every year.
4 - Reverting your vehicle to its original state prior to sale: If a driving instruction vehicle is no longer being used for instruction and is being put up for sale, it must have the dual controls removed. Once the modifications have been returned to the original manufacturer's specifications, it must be inspected. The Department has authorised private businesses (Authorised Inspection Stations) to provide vehicle inspections in metropolitan and regional areas of Western Australia. Once the vehicle passes an inspection, the vehicle record will be amended and the conditions imposed on the vehicle licence will be removed.
